Ls Land Forum 31

Are you a landlord impacted by the tenant protections? On March 15, 2022, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors passed a motion by Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Janice Hahn to cancel property tax penalties, interest, costs, and fees for property owners that have been negatively affected by the eviction moratorium passed by the Board as part of its COVID-19 relief efforts. On January 24, 2023, the Board of Supervisors voted to extend certain protections to March 31, 2023. Therefore, landlords who have been impacted by the tenant protections may continue to request cancellation of penalties for late payment of property taxes.

The new law requires a surveyor, authorized agents or employees to make reasonable efforts to notify the landowner that they may be entering upon their land. This could be accomplished by a phone call, letter or in person. This notice provision does not require that the landowner actually receive notice only that the surveyor make a reasonable attempt to provide notice. Only reasonable efforts need to be put forth to notify the landowner. Again, while this law offers protection against a trespass violation, it does not give the surveyor an absolute right to enter the land. If the landowner becomes confrontational common sense should prevail.

The new law further mandates that the surveyor operates during reasonable hours and within a reasonable distance from the property line of the land being surveyed. At all times the surveyor and/or employee must carry, and upon request, show proper identification as to registration or employment. Currently, NYSAPLS is working on a form for member ID cards that will comply with the law and will be presented in the near future.

The new law will provide surveyors with the ability to enter properties for surveying purposes, assuring the surveyor legal protection not otherwise available, while offering the landowner safety and privacy.

Placing tribal land into trust is a process that allows the federal government to acquire titles to property and hold it for the benefit of tribes. How the law governing land into trust applies to Alaska has been the source of conflicting U.S. Department of Interior opinions.

In 2003, Great Western's naming-rights contract on the building expired (despite being bought by Washington Mutual in 1997, their name had been retained in the interim), and Forum Enterprises changed the venue's name back to "the Forum". The Great Western corporate logo and the words "Great Western" remained on portions of the exterior, including the roof (with a logo visible to planes landing at LAX), and were slowly removed over time. The roof, which was the last part of the building to contain the "GW" logo and "Great Western Forum" name, would not be repainted until the MSG remodeling, when it was overlaid with the new "Forum Presented by Chase" logo.

The primary purpose of licensing for professional engineers and land surveyors is to protect the public from unqualified or unethical practitioners. The requirement for continuing professional competency (CPC) is also intended to protect the public by reinforcing the need for lifelong learning to stay current with changing technology, equipment, procedures, processes, and established standards.

You may change your address using the online feature at Changes may also be faxed to 866-888-9718 or submitted in writing to the Georgia Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, 237 Coliseum Drive, Macon, Georgia 31217-3858. It is incumbent for all registrants to maintain a current mailing and email address with the Board to receive renewal notices and information of changes to regulations pertaining to the practice of engineering and land surveying. A new address on letterhead or envelope is not construed as a request to change an address.

All businesses offering engineering or land surveying services in the State of Georgia through individual registered professional engineers or land surveyors as agents, officers or partners are required to file an Application for Certificate of Authorization with the Board before they are allowed to practice in Georgia. Please refer to O.C.G.A. 43-15-23 and 43-15-23.1. Sole proprietorships are exempt from this requirement.

You may request a roster online for engineers and engineering firms here or for land surveyors or land surveying firms here. The fee for a roster of professional engineers, land surveyors or professional engineering firms is $100 each and $50 for a roster of land surveying firms. A license inquiry or search for a specific professional engineer or land surveyor may be performed from the Board's web site at no charge.

Registrants of the Board must renew their licenses every year. The Board renews Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor licenses, as well as firms. Firms include companies, corporations, professional corporations, partnerships, associations, limited liability corporations, and other entities. Licenses may be in active, inactive, lapsed, or revoked status. Individual registrants in inactive status cannot hold themselves out to the public as a registrant of the Board or practice professional engineering or land surveying. The same is true for those in lapsed status. Those in inactive or lapsed status can reinstate their licenses to active status. 2ff7e9595c
